Blake is a freelance multimedia journalist based in San Diego.

He spent years covering homelessness for The San Diego Union-Tribune, his hometown paper. Before that, Blake reported on New Jersey’s attorney general, state police and prison system for The Star-Ledger and NJ.com. He’s also written about the Missouri Statehouse for The Associated Press, reported abroad for Public Radio International, filmed for The Wall Street Journal, hosted Investigative Reporters and Editors' podcast, contributed reporting to The New Yorker and drawn for Poynter.

While living in Central America, Blake wrote for magazines in Guatemala. He’s shot video with UNICEF, World Vision and other nonprofits on multiple continents.

His work has been published by The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Los Angeles Times.

Blake earned a graduate journalism degree from the University of Missouri.
